Why would I write a poem? Good question! I have found a few creative outlets that cause me to gaze deeply into the attributes, work, and story of Jesus. Poetry is one of those because I not only meditate on Christ, but I toil over the exact language which best communicates the fruit of that toil. Why would I share it with you? Another great question. If for 2-3 minutes as you read over these words you join with me in thinking deeply on the gospel story, then I find it valuable to share these words with you.
This was written in 2008 as I was primarily dwelling on Romans 5:12-21, 8:18-25 and Revelation 21:1-8. I think it is an appropriate idea for us during this Advent season as we reflect on the promised return of our Messiah.
Back to Eden
a separation from Eden is found
in the sin of our lives it abounds
for hope we look to anticipate a
state of change to inculcate our
world of pain that flows from the tree
of death in which we ate
more to see and more to find
at the end of this plot line
a hope to see that brings a
beam of light upon many dark days and nights
a new Eden will bring the
freedom from pain and grief
a new Eden to walk and see
the Father of all who strolls
amidst his creation redeemed once for all
all things new
earth and bodies
will restore to a day when
pain is gone and tears aren’t dried anymore
the sick will sing a song of
restoration as the blind find
sight and melody brings its song
into ears which have been silent
another Eden will come and
find a hope restored with anxious
accord among the ones who found
life in the great story of our Lord
anticipation is the ring of life his story brings
again adam will see and walk
with the one who died to be
righteous and just above all
back to Eden again to go
and find no more tears of hurt and pain
back to Eden again to be with my father
whose hand graciously carries me
