Club season does not wait for you to be ready. Neither do the coaches watching it. I have seen this play out too many times to sugarcoat it.
For volleyball players with college aspirations, the club circuit is the most concentrated stretch of exposure in their athletic career. Multiple tournaments. Multiple coaches. Multiple programs evaluating the same pool of athletes across a compressed window of time.
What most players do not account for is how much of that evaluation happens before they ever step on the court.
Coaches do their homework. They look up the athletes they are considering. They check Instagram, recruiting profiles, and whatever visual presence an athlete has built around their name. What they find, or do not find, shapes their expectation before any match begins.
A volleyball player with a professional headshot, intentional action content, and a consistent visual identity on their profiles signals something. It says this athlete is serious. It says someone in their corner understands that the game is being played off the court too.
That impression compounds. A coach who arrives at a tournament already interested, already impressed by what they have seen, watches differently than one starting from zero.
The window for building that presence before club season starts is shorter than most families realize. A media session in the fall or early spring creates content that works through the entire recruiting cycle. Action shots from games and tournaments add to that archive over time.
By the time the biggest tournaments hit, the athletes who have built something visible are not scrambling to be seen. They are already known.
The court is where the offer gets confirmed. But the content is where the conversation starts. I have watched that first impression open doors that talent alone could not.
