The Energy of a New Season

There’s nothing quite like the buzz of a new season — the mix of adrenaline, pride, and possibility that fills the room as high school athletes gear up for what’s next. On July 24, I had the opportunity to photograph a Media Day for Lamar Consolidated ISD, an event powered by the incredible team at VYPE Media. As a photographer, I thrive on moments like these — where athletes bring their full energy and personality to the set.

Spotlight on Fall Sports & Champions

We covered nearly every fall sports team across their seven high school campus — football, volleyball, cross country, cheer, tennis, water polo, and more. Several athletes had just come off state championship seasons, and you could feel that championship DNA in every pose and interaction. Randall High School had the rings and trophy to show for their 2024 5A DII State Championship title, and Fulshear Volleyball continues on the adrenaline of their run to the 2024 6A State Final, where they fell short to Grand Oaks in four.

It did not stop there. There were track athletes with more bling than Rick Ross and Drake combined. Each shot was a chance to spotlight the hard work behind the wins and the anticipation of what’s to come. Whether it was a group shot or an individual hype shot, every click of the shutter captured something real.

A Studio Vibe Meets Sideline Hype

The gym was alive. Music echoed through the space while teammates laughed, hyped each other up, and brought serious swagger to their sessions. There were TikTok videos being rehearsed and recorded in strategic corners of the gym. Players got loud. The room felt more like a mixtape launch than a photo shoot.

That’s what a media day is supposed to be — an experience that mirrors the spirit of the team.

USAV Nationals Dallas 2025 | Sports Photography

Heading to Dallas for the USAV Nationals from June 30 to July 3? So am I—and I’m bringing my camera! As a professional sports and action photographer, I’ll be capturing the energy, emotion, and unforgettable moments of the tournament. Whether you’re looking for team coverage or individual highlights, I’ve got you covered with flexible options designed to fit every need and budget.

USAV Nationals Photography Options

I’m offering three distinct ways to lock in action photography coverage at the 2025 USAV Nationals:

Option One: Team Match Reservation ($275 per Match/2-3 sets)

Best for: Teams that want to share the cost and spread the photography coverage.
Breakdown: The reservation cost can be shared between some or all teammates. For example, a team of 10 athletes contributes $27.50 per athlete to a team mom who makes the reservation.
Includes: High-resolution, professionally edited action shots, of as many players as possible, delivered via private digital gallery. Perfect for parents or coaches organizing group coverage—split the cost, share the memories.

Option Two: Tournament Day Rate ($625 per Day) - This is coverage for a full day of the typical 3+ matches played.

Best for: Teams that want every opportunity for each teammate to be highlighted along with consistent coverage across multiple matches.
Breakdown: The reservation cost can be shared between some or all teammates. For example, a team of 10 athletes contributes just $62.50 each to a team mom who makes the reservation for an entire day.
Includes: High-resolution, professionally edited action shots, of as many players as possible, over a full day of matches, delivered via digital private gallery.

Option Three: Individual Athlete Coverage – If I have open time between team reservations, I’ll be shooting individual athlete requests.

Best for: Athletes or parents who want action photo coverage but a team reservation isn’t possible.
Availability: I prioritize my team reservations. Before or after those teams are playing I will work on shooting the requests I received for individual athlete coverage.
Access: Photos will be uploaded and made available for purchase and download on my website gallery inside the USAV folder.
Pricing: There are two digital sizes available. The download size that is optimized for digital use like social media posting is $9.99 per photo and the full resolution download appropriate for printing is $19.99 per photo (for archiving, purchase the full resolution photo and save a duplicate copy that is 2160 pixels on the short side and use that copy for social media).

Action vs. Hype: The Two Sides of Sports Photography Every Athlete Needs

It is also the perfect tag at home plate by a catcher who is receiving the full force of a runner’s momentum and determination from third base. Just as important, action photography is also about capturing the moment raw emotion erupts in jubilation, depicting the passion and leadership of an athlete.

What is Media Day or Hype Sports Photography?

Media Day Photography, also known as Hype Sports Photography, is all about personality, story, and branding. These sessions are staged and stylized. They’re your chance to showcase attitude, style, and swagger in a way that grabs attention and builds a personal or team brand. A Media Day session can take a lot of shapes. It can be for the purpose of creating banners, headshots, or social media marketing material for a team or organization. A session can take the shape of simple posed portraits in uniform against a white backdrop or it can be a session full of shots that capture the peak point of action amidst the swing of a bat, throw, spike, set, dunk, or bicycle kick. The one consistent for every Media Day session is that it must be FUN.

At the moment, graduation ceremonies in our Katy, TX school district are coming to a close. Those who were juniors are now our new seniors! These amazing incoming seniors find themselves neatly nestled in the calm before storm. The ideal time to get your professional senior portraits on the calendar is now. Before the school year kicks off with sports, homework, and college prep, there’s one important opportunity you don’t want to miss: your senior portrait photo session.
