Alex Kennedy is a man who has spoken into my life since I was about 16 years old. He was the man who officiated my wedding, and someone I have been blessed by throughout the years no matter where God had moved each of us or what stage of life we were walking through. God had brought him back to Katy and he was the pastor at Kingsland Baptist Church. Alex was the man I took on that drive to share the vision of what God had been speaking.
During that drive, I told Alex that I wanted him to journey with me through this and I wasn’t sure what that looked like. I knew that God had used him in my life in so many ways, and I wanted him to continue to be used as we moved into the next season of ministry. In God’s great providence, our conversation that day met with some circumstances which were laden with God’s fingerprints. From many different angles, through vision God had been giving to Alex and Kingsland, as well as some unique financial gifts, it was obvious that God was doing His thing in the earliest moments of Crossings Community.

Crossings Community, a church in Katy, TX
After a series of events, God paved the way for Kingsland Baptist Church to be an enormous blessing to us by not only being our greatest financial sponsor but also giving of great wisdom, time, and effort. God’s provision through their support made it possible for us to begin talking with a core group of families and ultimately purchase the trailer full of equipment we would need to begin meeting publicly.
There were 3 couples who joined us to begin laying the foundation of Crossings Community. There are many great memories of us meeting in a living room and talking through the book of Nehemiah while also discussing what it would take to begin this church. God used those couples in ways they will probably never understand. As is often the case, God has taken them all to different place now, but their fingerprints will always be on the fruit of God’s church.
These home meetings transitioned to a need to for a larger space and also found the addition of more families. We met with all of these families each Sunday night. I preached the scriptures and we worshiped our great God. It was only about three months into this intermediate transition before we had our first public worship service on Christmas Eve 2006. The handful of families who were involved invited everyone they knew on that Christmas Eve, and it was the beginning of something very special… the beginning of seeing countless homes begin the awesome journey of being transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ.
