It Is That Week

March 31, 2015 by Matt Leave a Comment

It is that week again… that week when you find cute dresses for the girls and something nice for the boys. It is that week when Sunday comes and everyone is going to church together. It is that week when everyone will wake up on Sunday morning to discover all sorts of chaos and frustration as hair is being made presentable and new outfits are being put together.

EVERYTHING is meaningless outside of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

It is that week again… that week when the family pictures need to happen. There are always colossal meltdowns when all of the children need to be still for the same five to ten seconds. It is that week when the ladies are stressed about how they look and the men are stressed about having to wear what their wives requested.

It all cheapens the beauty of His story, when you stop to think about it. The truth is that our celebration this weekend has nothing to do with nice clothes nor family pictures. Forgive me, but the truth is that your family traditions have no place consuming your mind and heart this weekend.

It is that week again… that week when we are reminded that EVERYTHING is meaningless outside of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is that week when we must feel the gravity of His death on Friday and then exuberance of His resurrection victory on Sunday.

I would expect if your home is anything like mine then there are enough weeks of the year already available for chaos in the home. What if simplicity marked this week so that our minds and hearts could really dwell upon the gift of Jesus Christ?

What if your mind was consumed by the realities of Christ’s death and resurrection this weekend and you allowed NOTHING to get in the way that focus? What if instead of adding new things to think about this weekend you stripped EVERYTHING away aside from simply focusing on Him? What if that is what your children remembered more than new clothing and pictures?

It is that week again… make this one different.
